Tema 2019: Apokalypse – nå igjen.
Har filmen fått eksistensiell angst? Vi er inne i en turbulent periode preget av klimakrise og polarisert politikk. Hva gjør det med filmene som lages? Og hva gjør filmene med oss?

Stacey Abbott, reader ved film og TV-studier ved Universitetet i Roehampton London, med fordypning i gotisk og horror-film og -tv, og en spesiell interesse i vampyrer og zombier.

OM ÅRETS TEMA
Film har alltid vært tiltrukket av katastrofer. Endetid, krig, terror, eksplosiv teknologisk utvikling og mangel på ressurser. For ikke å snakke om den indre krisen som oppstår for karakterene som står midt oppi det. Dystopi er aldri så visuelt storslagent som på film. Men er historier om apokalypse bare virkelighetsflukt?
Under årets filmseminar ønsker vi å dykke ned i hvordan ny og gammel film er med på å forme hvordan vi ser verden. Skjermer kinomørket oss fra de virkelige problemene vi står overfor? Eller kan filmens kraft være en kime til håp, handlekraft, og opprør?

Hvert år arrangerer vi filmseminaret, hvor vi henter inn kunnskapsrike, inspirerende foredragsholdere fra hele verden, og viser filmene de prater om. Tidligere tema har blant annet vært skeiv film, komedie, melodrama og politisk film. Tidligere foredragsholdere har blant annet vært David Bordwell, Richard Dyer, Anne Jerslev, Joachim Trier, Linda Williams og Dag Johan Haugerud.
Seminaret arrangeres av Norsk filmklubbforbund i samarbeid med Z filmtidsskrift og Norsk filmkritikerlag. Seminaret er støttet av Norsk filminstitutt.

Have films been struck by existential angst? We live in tumultuous times, marred by climate crisis and a polarized political landscape. How does this affect the films being made? And how do these films affect us?

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Julia Leyda, Associate Professor of Film Studies, Department of Art and Media Studies, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim.
Jasper Sharp, writer, filmmaker and curator, and one of the founders of the cinema site on Japanese cinema Midnight eye.
Stacey Abbott, reader at Film and Television studies at the University of Roehampton, London. Her field is gothic and horror in film and tv, with a particular interest in vampires and zombies.

ABOUT THIS YEARS TOPIC
Film has always been attracted to catastrophes. The end of the world, war, terror, explosive technological development and scarcity of resources. Not to mention the inner turmoil that torments the characters caught in the crosshairs. Dystopia is never as visually breathtaking as on film. But are stories about apocalypse just an escape from reality?
This year we want to see how films, new and old, affect how we view the world. Does the warm, dark comfort of a cinema distract us from the real challenges we are facing? Or can films be a source of hope, action and rebellion?

Each year for the Filmseminar, we bring in knowledgeable, inspiring speakers from around the world, and screen the films they talk about. Some previous topics for the seminar have been queer cinema, comedy, melodrama and political films. Previous keynote speakers have included David Bordwell, Richard Dyer, Anne Jerslev, Joachim Trier, Linda Williams og Dag Johan Haugerud.
The seminar is held by The Norwegian Federation of Film Societies in collaboration with the quarterly film magazine Z, and Norsk filmkritikerlag. The seminar has financial support from The Norwegian Film Institute.
