I midten av januar var filmklubbfolk samlet på TIFF for å se film. Der var også FICC-juryen, filmklubbfolk tilknyttet det internasjonale filmklubbforbundet, som delte ut pris til beste film. Her kan du lese om alles favoritter.

Film, hygge og pøsregn, årets filmfestival i Tromsø var innholdsrik. Du kan lese om hva som foregikk på filmklubbseminaret her. Når det gjelder filmer, her er noen av favorittene til filmklubbfolk som var der:

• Memoir of a snail (2204, Adam Elliot) «Fantastisk fin.»
• «The Quiet Son (2024, Delphine Coulin, Muriel Coulin) var helt fantastisk. Og They will be dust (2024, Carlos Marqués-Marcet). Nevner bare to men det var såklart mange mange som gjorde inntrykk.»
• U are the universe (2024,  Pavlo Ostrikov)
• «Aldri sett så mange gode filmer. Touch (2024, Baltasar Kormákur), Alt skal bort (2025, Arild Østin Ommundsen), Happy Holidays (2024,  Scandar Copti), En liten bit av kaken (2024, Maryam Moghadam, Behtash Sanaeeha), Vermiglio (2024, Maura Delpero) og noen til.»
• Riefenstahl (2024, Andres Veiel). Fascinerende dokumentar om Leni Riefenstahl, som kanskje handler vel så mye om hvordan vi vil bli sett og husket.
• The Assessment (2024, Fleur Fortuné). En stilfull sci-fi thriller om hva et par må gjennom for å bli foreldre i et fremtidssamfunn.
• The Brutalist (2024, Brady Corbet). Et episk, visuelt og sonisk slående verk som tegner et dystert bilde av etterkrigstidens Amerika, og det kompliserte forholdet mellom kunst og penger, børs og katedral.

Juryens pris

I år bestod FICC-juryen av Maciej Gil, fra Kinobus filmfestival i Polen, Eva-Maria Schneider-Reuter tilknyttet det tyske Filmklubbforbundet, og Mike Murphy, i Tromsø filmklubb. (Tromsø filmklubb og Tromsø barnefilmklubb veksler på å bidra med et medlem i juryen.)

Juryen ser alle filmene i konkurranseprogrammet på TIFF, og velger sin favoritt som får Don Quixote-prisen. Her er årets vinner, og hedelig omtale:

Don Quixote Award: Holy Cow
Original title: Vingt dieux

Year: 2024
Director: Louise Courvoisier.
In this calm, simple, documentary-like story we see cows in cars, siblings grieving and making cheese, and a village clique drinking and fighting while at the same time being there for each other without saying a word. This light-hearted summer story, with its fantastic young actors, captures the people, landscapes, and flavors of rural France, in a way that is raw and direct, but also tender and poetic. Holy Cow is a brilliant debut from an exciting young director that looks forward with hope in uncertain times. The International Federation of Film Societies is proud to present the Don Quixote Prize for TIFF 2025 to Holy Cow, by Louise Courvoisier. Congratulations!

Special Mention: Gaucho Gaucho

The International Federation of Film Societies would like to give a special mention to Gaucho Gaucho, by Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw. Gaucho Gaucho showcases a unique community whose strength and beauty, sense of tradition and cultural heritage are celebrated in every single frame. We want to encourage our film society colleagues to add Gaucho Gaucho to their programs, because its stark cinematography and gorgeous vistas truly deserve to be seen on the big screen. The film is a beautiful tribute to Argentina’s Gaucho culture, lifting up a rich past and an open-minded look to the future. Bravo!
